Worm Ohana is Back in Action!

Aloha Worm Ohana!

On the Worm Ohana website, automatic features continued to function, keeping track of our collective food waste diversion data, displaying our ever-growing worm and vermicast harvests.

Many of you, however, noticed that nothing new had been posted since May of 2023. What was going on?

Long story short, we lost our non-profit sponsor, lost our funding and had to lay low for a while, but we never, never lost hope!  We strongly believe in the power of individuals to divert food waste, create value, and build community through vermicomposting, and now we have an extraordinary opportunity to expand our reach as never before…

Da wormies have gone off to COLLEGE!  All worms have been relocated to the Magoon Research Facility in Manoa, now part of the College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources (CTAHR), University of Hawaii!   The beautiful new Magoon Wormery – dubbed Hui Ko’e ‘Aina – is fully equipped with everything required to maintain Oahu’s robust wormstock, conduct scientific studies, engage students of all ages, and offer an array of fun programs and services to the public.  Research, Education, Inspiration!

In addition, we have been invited to renovate an existing worm display at the Oahu Urban Garden Center in Pearl City.  The new UGC Wormery will serve as our satellite facility. UH Master Gardeners will host a variety of worm-learning events every second Saturday of the month, with a focus on vermicast production and use. The UGC Wormery is still under construction, but should be ready to roll shortly.

With so much happening, we want to stay in touch with you. If you are not officially a member of the Worm Ohana, please subscribe to Worm News to get updates on programs and activities.

Should you wish to make a donation to either or both of these projects, please support the cause using the links below.  Your contribution to the UH Foundation is fully tax-deductible.

Mahalo for your continued support. IMUA!!!
